Effective immediately, the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) has announced that, in the interest of consumers, industry and the real estate profession, it will cease its support of the National Occupational Licensing Scheme (NOLS). The scheme itself will be disestablished from early 2014. In a communique issued by COAG, the various states involved will now pursue alternative options for minimising licensing impediments and to improving labour mobility.
